Baraka

Sunday I was at the University Audio-Visual library digging through their documentary collection when I came across this beauty.Baraka is a collection of stunning and powerful images of our world and our lives and takes you through an incredible journey almost transcendental in experience. The title is a Sufi word which means "essence of life"(internet sources).
For those interested in watching but do not have access to the dvd it is available in you tube.Enjoy!

(PS: Pump up the volume to enjoy the cool background scores and watch it on the biggest screen you may access to)

Not Good vs. Good

I feel bored out of my mind- Not good
I am up-to-date at work- Good
I don't like the work I do- Not good
I connected with some of my old friends from school and college- Good
I also connected with some old friends who pretended to not know me anymore- Not good
I am reading two books at a time @a para a day- Not good
I am getting to eat good home cooked food –Good
I saw WALL.E and loved it- Good
I also saw Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants-I and liked it- Good
I am madly in love with James Hetfield (again)- Good
I don’t have any new crushes- Good
I feel a bit lost- Not good
I finished writing a paper- Good
I don’t have the courage to send it out yet- Not good
I met with my Prof and she was happy to see me- Good
I have not made any progress on my thesis- Not good
I have a bad feeling that I might drop out- Not good
I also feel I should not give up and go for it- Good
I wish for old times – Good
I am not sure which “old times” I have in mind- Not good
I wonder what happened to my friendship with a certain friend- Not good
I feel like putting all blame on my friend but I wonder if it’s just my ego taking me on a trip- Not good
I got news a friend’s son is not keeping well- Not good
I got news a cousin left for higher studies- Good
I fought with my mom today – Not good
I already feel bad and want to go home- Good
I just feel irritated today- Not good
I feel inspired by this photographer and his images - Good
I wish for a new camera but no money- Not good
I just want to get lost – Not good
I think it would be irresponsible to get lost – Good

I don’t mind the summer here- Good
I want to sing “My Sweet Lord”- Good
I doubt if my sweet Lord will hear me- Not good
I want to go on a road trip and write my own motorcycle diaries-Good
I can’t ride a motorcycle nor do I have any volunteers(yet)-Not good
I don’t really get the point of this post-Not good
I guess I just wrote down everything I want to write down- Good
I see (at this point) there are more “not goods” than “goods”- Not good
I believe it’s a matter of time before everything changes for the good- Good
I like life and all the drama associated with it- Good
And now there is balance!

Women!

A friend of mine sent this to me and I had to post it. It is quite funny!

Women over 50 don't have babies because they would put them down and
forget where they left them.

A friend of mine confused her Valium with her birth control pills... she
has 14 kids but doesn't really care.

One of life's mysteries is how a 2-pound box of chocolates can make a
woman gain 5 lbs.

My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.

The best way to forget your troubles is to wear tight shoes.

The nice part about living in a small town is that when you don't know
what you are doing, someone else does.

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your
body and your fat are really good friends.

Just when I was getting used to yesterday, along came today.

Sometimes I think I understand everything, and then I regain
consciousness.

I gave up jogging for my health when my thighs kept rubbing together and
setting fire to my knicker's.

Amazing! You hang something in your closet for a while and it shrin ks 2
sizes!

Skinny people irritate me! Especially when they say things like...'You
know sometimes I forget to eat!' ......Now I've forgotten my address, my
mother's maiden name and my keys, but I have never forgotten to eat. You
have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat!

The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing and
then they marry him.

I read this article that said the typical symptoms of stress are eating
too much, impulse buying, and driving too fast. Are they kidding? That's
my idea of a perfect day!

Just Another Post

Technically summer has arrived although the weather has been dull with cloudy skies and intermittent drizzles. I also happen to be one of those (few?) people who likes dull weather. And if there is no reason to feel depressed then this weather actually makes me happy, energetic and cheerful…like I have downed a six-pack of red bull or something. I don't mean to be disrespectful but I am definitely not a big fan of the sun.

Another reason to be “happy” ..its summer break and I am not taking any classes. In fact, doing nothing (much) yet getting paid double. How often does something like that happen? So yea …I feel good. Now I don’t know how soon before boredom sets in. There is the danger of that happening you know. I guess that’s when friends come in handy (*wicked grin). Then there are the movies. Books might help too, although of late I am not so much into books. It could be because I didn’t come across anything nice and gripping. The last one I read was …can’t remember. But since then I have discarded many books barely making it to the first few pages. BORING!

So that leaves the movies and music. Music is always there…its like saying I eat everyday or sleep everyday. Whatever…Movies!- gosh where are the good ones gone? Recently saw black and white (Anil Kapoor et al.). Could have been a nice one if only it was well made! The new guy is kind of good looking- the dark, quiet and mysterious types. Well of course he is portraying a terrorist on a suicide mission! What else to expect. Duh!

It feels strange that I am typing this post. Have been away from blogging for so long. I am actually at work with nothing to do and just finished seeing Knocked Up. Yes..you can do that when there is an empty office with a good set of ear phones. Hysterical movie most of the time and sometimes your mind goes ‘this is too much’! Obviously blogging is also an option when boredom sets in.

A recent cool development in life has been acquiring a membership at the local public library. Books are free and movies cost only $1 for a week. The sweetest part- they have an awesome collection of globe trekker series. So far saw Bolivia, Central China, India, South West China, Central Asia and Cambodia and ever more in love with Ian Wright. Oh yea..traveled far and wide all in $6 (that was supposed to be the official pathetic-loser- line of the post).

I have also been writing to some friends. One guy told me he is going fish counting next week by the river. Another one is leaving for San Francisco on a new job and another one lost her mobile with all her friends’ numbers in it. One even got married and got a lifer paradoxically speaking :P.

Besides all this - I miss some of my old blog mates, my skin has become a shade darker (the darn sun!), my hair has grown too long to my liking and last but not the least I discovered I love Vietnamese food (I recommend their Pho ( a kind of rice noodle soup).

Joy to all.
